EMPIRE OF THE ARIAS!
Monday, November 30th, 2009It was certainly Empire Of The Sun’s night at this year’s ARIA Awards. Four ARIA Award wins and a mind blowing performance of Walking On A Dream can only mean one thing, they are THE Empire Of the 2009 ARIA Awards!
A spectacular set design of blue pillars and an enormous sun surrounded the band and dancers as they performed to a very appreciative crowd. The performance ended in dramatic style with a shower of pyrotechnics.
Empire Of The Sun won the sought after:
- Awards for Album of the Year
- Single of the Year (Walking On A Dream)
- Best Group
- Best Pop Release
The Empire was represented by Luke Steele who thanked Nick Littlemore who plays a producing role in the band and who is currently overseas, Donnie Sloan who contributed to the creative on some tracks and Peter Mayes who engineered the album. Empire Of The Sun are taking their live show on the road with front man Luke Steele leading the charge surrounded by dancers and band members Anthony Mitolo and Surahn Sidhu.

The Sun Sets on CarriageWorks

Tickets to this gig are limited so fans are encouraged to pre-register for an alert before October 29 at www.mastercard.com.au/music. Tickets are priced at $50 (plus booking fee + GST), available to purchase at 9AM AEST on 29 October 2009, and can only be purchased with a Debit MasterCard.

Monday, October 12th, 2009Empire of the Sun will be taking their live stage show to the screen (for the very first time!) for the 2009 ARIA Awards on November 26.
Emperor Steele will perform at the awards at ACER Arena in Sydney, whilst (no doubt!) cleaning up at the awards with the Empire’s incredible eleven nominations. It’s gonna be spectacular.

The sold-out crowd congregated around the main stage to absorb the magic of Empire Of The Sun performing surrounded by dancers (with six costume changes at last count) and a gigantic screen radiating bespoke visuals created by the Empire’s own video director.
Triple J’s Zan Rowe gave the Empire show a big thumbs up in her Parklife blog.
I knew it’d be a fight to get over to the Riverstage to see Empire of the Sun’s debut performance, so I trekked over early and saw them setting up gradually, to the banging beats of Kaskade. Hot pink square guitars and men in full laboratory jumpsuits were what I spotted on stage, and I knew we were in for something special. Sure enough, when Luke Steele hit the stage his world of dreams exploded with him and I witnessed one of the most stunning debut live performances ever. Banter was limited, each song flowed into the next and when it didn’t there was atmospheric sounds or spacey voiceovers to add to the atmosphere of this dreamy landscape. The dancers changed costumes almost every song. I pondered to a friend if this was the work of a genius art director but no, this is what is inside Luke Steele’s head. Empire of the Sun put so much into their maiden voyage into live performance, and it blew me away.
